Holly Williams

The talented motocross star, Holly Williams, is stepping up from a 125cc to a 250cc Honda for her most exciting season yet

Most A-Level students have enough on their plate with revision and exams, but not Holly Williams. She’s embarking on the most challenging and exciting stage of her motocross career so far as she progresses from a 125cc to the more powerful 250cc Honda. Her upgraded bike adorned with sponsor logos including her school, Moreton Hall, represents a move to the big league.

Holly explains: “This year will be my rookie season on the Honda 250F. I am already feeling really happy with the bike and we are making improvements to the set-up each time we go to the track.” This season Holly will be competing in the ACU British Women’s Championship, AMCA British Championship, FXR Area Championship against male riders, and selected EMX European rounds, as well as having some exciting plans towards the end of the season.

ROCKY START

Last year was outstanding for Holly. She was crowned Vice ACU British Champion, Vice AMCA British Champion and Vice Scottish Cup Champion and she’s set her sights even higher for this season, all while studying for her exams. Holly says her teachers have been really supportive and while she had what she describes as a rocky start to A-levels, she got back on track. Rather than dropping to two A-Levels, the teachers came up with a plan that meant she could manage the standard three alongside riding. Holly’s studying PE, Business and Photography and has found her groove successfully balancing academics with the sport she loves.

As a small child Holly got involved with her mum’s passion for horses but when her pony died, it was her motocross racing dad who suggested getting a bike. Holly enjoyed it straight away and during Covid found a track to ride on regularly. The courage and resilience to succeed at this level is incredible. When Holly competes against men, which she does quite regularly in the FXR championship, it can be quite comical. She says: “In some races I line up with 44 men and at the end of the race I take off my helmet and they realise they’ve been beaten by a girl!”

GREAT TEAM

Holly’s philosophical about this season and her exams. She says: “The next few months are looking extremely busy for me with the start of all three championships as well as the countdown to my A-Level exams, but I am confident that I will be able to reach my full potential. Moreton has provided me with a team of people who go above and beyond to ensure I am able to reach my goals.”

Post A-Levels, Holly won’t be following the standard university path or taking a gap year. Her dad has given her a year to focus on riding and not worry about needing a proper job so Holly can see where the sport takes her. She has found herself some work experience to do alongside riding, but she’s able to focus largely on the sport. We’ll be following Holly’s progress closely and are wishing her well both on the track and in the classroom.
