The talent packed Aston Performing Arts Academy is putting on a vibrant show which aims to uplift and inspire its Birmingham audience. Among the Academy’s students are some of the city’s most talented musicians and performers who will take the crowd on a journey addressing some of the issues that young people face daily in the city. Linking gospel, soul, jazz, R&B and pop plus a few surprises and tributes along the way, it promises to be a very special night.

Visitors to Birmingham’s first weekend wine festival will also be treated to some of the region’s top chefs who’ll be on hand to provide a foodie flavour to the festivities.

Turners, Loves Restaurant and high-end cooking collective Clarke & Lee have all signed up to produce some exciting food to match some of the world’s best wines. Richard Turner, owner of the Michelin starred Turners Restaurant will be creating six tasting dishes each matched with suitable wine.

Richard Turner said: “It’s great for the city to be celebrating quality food and wine. I’m delighted to be a part of the festival, the food scene in Birmingham is certainly creating a buzz across the UK and a festival such as this is a real opportunity to champion the quality of what’s going on in the region, and the importance of selecting the best wines to compliment the best ingredients, as we do at Turners.”

Loves Restaurant will be championing local produce matched with English wine. The restaurant has over 20 English varieties on their wine list and for the last two years has only served quality English sparkling wine instead of Champagne. Birmingham based cooking duo Clarke & Lee will be creating a high end culinary experience. The pair have been at the forefront of pioneering new and unusual dining experiences across Birmingham including the underground foodie movement of secret supper clubs. They’ll be bringing their creative flair to the festival with some exciting food and wine pairings.

Festival goers will have unlimited tasting of wine, champagne, sparkling and fortified wines, all included in the ticket cost. Expert master-classes will also be available led by leading figures from the wine and food industry. The event is expected to attract wine lovers from around the country. Birmingham Wine Festival co-founder Amy Seton said: “We’re extremely excited about the food partnerships we’ve developed for the festival. We’re showing a real cross section of Birmingham’s food scene from Michelin star chefs to Clarke & Lee’s cooking collective.

Crowd Out is an ambitious vocal project which unites the voices of 1,000 local people in an extraordinary musical event. Composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning David Lang and produced by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) Crowd Out will be a performance on an epic scale. Performers will sing, yell, talk, shout and more besides! The Music Director of Crowd Out is Simon Halsey, acclaimed Chorus Director for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and the Project Co-ordinator is Birmingham’s dynamic music entrepreneur Clare Edwards.

To register for Crowd Out, there will be a ‘last chance’ rehearsal taking place at 10am, Sunday 1st June 2014, in the CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, Birmingham.
