Selfridges is getting ready to welcome a stack of emerging talent and performance artists to the store this month as it hosts its annual Live + Loud festival, which celebrates the city’s diverse arts movement.

This year’s event, which coincides with the department store’s 15th anniversary in Birmingham will see Birmingham rapper Stardom, whose new album Grams and Dreams has been catching the attention of leading DJs, perform alongside a host of performers over the four-day festival.

From a beauty bonanza to family entertainment, visual artists and local singer-songwriters, there are more than twenty events to enjoy. Highlights include dance by Birmingham’s Rosie Kay Dance Group, performances from Britain’s Got Talent stars Flawless and sets from city-based Capital Xtra mix DJ Jess Monroe.

During the festival, Selfridges’ food hall will host the Mainstage on 1 , which will showcase up-and-coming acts from Birmingham as well as other artists from the city and beyond performing throughout the store.

SB.TV, whose YouTube channel has 10 million subscribers, is collaborating with Selfridges once again to create an art installation/pop-up radio studio on Level 2. The live broadcasts will feature  artist appearances, conversation areas and a performance space.

Live + Loud kicks off at 5pm on Thursday September 27, when students from Birmingham Ormiston Academy take to the Mainstage on 1. They will be entertaining shoppers with two hours of performances, including music, singing and dancing.

Friday,September 28

2-2.20pm: Coventry-based singer-songwriter Jordan Mackampa will perform some of his gospel-inspired songs that touch on his Congolese heritage, ahead of his next European tour, which starts on October 1 at The Cuban Embassy, Birmingham.

2.25-2.45pm: Chariss Auburn, a singer-songwriter from Wolverhampton who was long-listed in the Glastonbury 2017’s Emerging Talent competition, will be performing a range of her her soulful songs. Unphased, from the eponymously named EP, was chosen as the standout single of the week by BBC Introducing WM.

4pm / 6pm: Chagall, who was born in Amsterdam and now lives in London, combines soulful vocals, heartfelt harmonies and lyricism with electronic production. She will wear wireless data Mi.Mu gloves to perform electronic music with gestures in a futuristic audio-visual live set.

Saturday September 29

Noon-2pm: a panel of local artists, including a street artist from The Custard Factory, an aspiring artist who is studying at the University of Birmingham, and visual artist will discuss Birmingham’s ever-evolving art scene.

3.40-3.55pm – Aiyana K, a 17-year-old singer-songwriter from Coventry, will perform some of her latest songs.

4-6pm: Join Capital Xtra DJ Sideman, social media influencer and video producer and creator, as well as regular co-host for BBC Charlie Sloth’s BBC Radio 1 show, will be on stage to introduce guests.

4-4.15pm: Flawless is an award-winning street dance act that has come a long way since it first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent ten years ago. The eight-strong troupe has appeared in Street Dance, headlined for the Royal Family at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and worked with musical royalty, including Beyonce, Madonna and Kylie Minogue.

4.20-4.40pm: Tehilla Henry is a talented singer-songwriter from Wolverhampton who has been writing music since she was 12 years old. Her live session for BBC Introducing WM was chosen as the one of the best for 2016, while her EP Little Things is available on Spotify and iTunes.

5.10-5.30pm: MC IC – Sideman will host the ultimate freestyle rap battle as rapid word artists bring word play and flow on the theme of Eye See, challenging each other to create see the world differently.

5.35-6pm: Stardom, Birmingham’s rising star, will be performing music from his latest release – including (appropriately) Gucci.

Noon-6pm: Live + Loud Beauty Event, Beauty Level 3. A must for any lover of Selfridges’ stunning beauty department. This will be a fantastic beauty party, hosted by model, DJ and presenter Charlotte De Carle. Enjoy a live DJ set, drinks and exclusive beauty experiences between 2pm and 4pm, and see what experiences the exclusive brands will be offering throughout the afternoon. Sunday September 30

10-11am: Rave-A-Roo Takeover. Head to Kids on the ground floor and enjoy this ultimate clubbing extravaganza just for families from the Ministry of Sound. Hosted by Carl Go! And Jade Go! from Go!Go!Go! Electro, it’s a chance to enjoy exciting music and a colourful confetti finale. Tickets cost £10 per person, which is redeemable against any purchase in the Kids and Toys departments on the day, and must be booked in advance.

Noon, 2pm, 4pm: SPARK!, a mesmerising street theatre company, will be roaming around the store, performing its high-octane drumming and kaleidoscope lighting sets.

3-3.20pm: Rosie Kay Dance Group, the Birmingham-based dance company, will be performing from its its latest production, MK ULTRA. Expect bright lights, superhuman dancing and pounding music from this astounding dance group.
