Following an award of £95,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, plus further contributions from Rolls-Royce, all visitors to Thinktank can explore the history of the aviation industry in the West Midlands and discover the science of flying during the Museum’s Summer of Flight and beyond.

Thinktank’s Spitfire gallery will run throughout the summer featuring activities exploring the iconic  aircraft along with community open days for residents of the factory and aerodrome areas, free events for children and engineering careers exploration with support from Rolls-Royce and RAF Cranwell.

A Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX and a Hawker Hurricane Mark IV hanging from the ceiling make a jaw dropping display. These aircraft have a special connection to the region with over half of all Spitfires being built in the Castle Bromwich ward of the City from 1939-45.
