Antiques for Everyone

Now in its 30th year, the fair is one of the most important and comprehensive showcases in Britain for pottery, porcelain and glass collectors and is a hotly anticipated event for over 250 exhibitors and thousands of visitors.

More than 100,000 items will be on sale at the fair including antique and decorative furniture, treen, ceramics, kitchenalia, silver, glass, jewellery, and works of art, arms and armour, maps, dolls and bears and an array of vintage and decorative collectables.

The fair is the perfect hunting ground for serious collectors, interior designers and those who simply love to browse and buy rare and unique objects ranging in price from just £10 to £100,000’s. Visitors can buy with confidence because all items for sale are vetted by a team of independent experts for quality, date and condition.

Popular specialist and author Judith Miller from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow will be giving talks and offering top tips on what’s hot as well as chatting to visitors about their favourite items.

Spring and Summer ParkLives programme

ParkLives will be bigger and better in Birmingham this year, with hundreds of fun and free activity sessions aimed at getting thousands of Brummies up, active and socialising in their local parks.

The free programme, from Coca-Cola Great Britain and Active Parks Birmingham will include over 80 fun and informal activity sessions each week designed for people of all ages and abilities and is being rolled out with the help of Friends of Parks groups to more than 60 community green spaces including Sheldon Country Park and Cotteridge Park.

The fun starts with nine pop-up Parks for the Easter holidays, with lots of free activities at Edgbaston Reservoir, Summerfield Park, Ward End Park, Sparkhill Park, Cannon Hill Park, Balsall Heath Park, Kings Heath Park, Sutton Park and Handsworth Park.

Sessions are generally an hour long and are held throughout the week. Every session is free and is led by a trained activity leader supported by Friends of Parks groups and community volunteers.

Easter Fun at the Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is hosting a week of exciting events including an Easter egg hunt on Sunday 5th April and a children’s Easter bonnet parade on Monday 6th to show off the eggstravagant creations they’ve been making at home, nursery or school.

From Sunday 5th to Friday 10th April, the gardens will also run arts and crafts activities, Easter-themed trails and face painting.

Open from 11am to 3pm, admission for under 16s is free with a full paying adult or member.

Hyatt High Tea Spring Fashion Show

The Hyatt High Tea will take place in the Symphony Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham where you’ll be greeted with a glass of fizz to kick off proceedings followed by a delicious high tea served just before a race day themed fashion show.

The fabulous Libby Walton will be Masters of Ceremony and Fashion Coordinator. The Fashion Show will showcase different race day looks from casual to occasion wear modelled by ‘real women’, with clothes from Coast and Maison Grace from Captain Tortue.

There will be a raffle from which all proceeds will go to the wonderful Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Spitfire Gallery

Following an award of £95,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, plus further contributions from Rolls-Royce, all visitors to Thinktank can explore the history of the aviation industry in the West Midlands and discover the science of flying during the Museum’s Summer of Flight and beyond.

Thinktank’s Spitfire gallery will run throughout the summer featuring activities exploring the iconic  aircraft along with community open days for residents of the factory and aerodrome areas, free events for children and engineering careers exploration with support from Rolls-Royce and RAF Cranwell.

A Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX and a Hawker Hurricane Mark IV hanging from the ceiling make a jaw dropping display. These aircraft have a special connection to the region with over half of all Spitfires being built in the Castle Bromwich ward of the City from 1939-45.
